We are a Baptist church, community- and family-oriented, and committed to sharing God’s love with everyone. We offer classes for all ages and a nursery during every service.

 

We believe in the fundamentals of the Christian faith: God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; salvation through Jesus Christ; the resurrection; and living in a way that honors God. Prayer is at the heart of everything we do.

Pastor James Smith is the pastor of Grace Baptist Church. He met the love of his life while attending Palmer High School and followed her to Grace Baptist Church formally known as Fundamental Baptist Church. On October 16, 1993, he married Helen Hill, his lifelong partner. Pastor Smith accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and followed the Lord in believers’ baptism under the ministry of S.G. Hancock in 1994.

 

In 1995, Pastor Smith began serving as a layperson youth pastor until God called him to preach in June 2001. In July 2001, he, and his wife, along with their three children, moved to Springfield, Missouri, to attend Baptist Bible College.

 

He began full-time ministry at Fundamental Baptist Church in May 2005, serving as Youth Pastor under the pastorate of Bro. Hancock. In 2006, he became Associate/Youth Pastor under Pastor Gary R. Miller.

 

After Pastor Miller retired on August 6, 2023, following 40 years of faithful ministry, Pastor Smith had the privilege of preaching in view of a call to be the next pastor. The congregation voted unanimously, and he officially assumed the pastorate on August 6, 2023.

 

Pastor Smith is deeply committed to leading the church in worship, discipleship, and outreach. He looks forward to walking alongside the members of Grace Baptist Church and introducing the community to their new name as the church continues to grow in Grace.

Meet our Pastor, Bro. James Smith

History of Our Church

Grace Baptist Church began in 1934, when a young preacher named Bro. J.C. Johnson felt the Lord leading him to hold a revival in Palmer, Texas. With no electricity and only split logs for seats, God blessed those two weeks, and over thirty people were saved. That small group became the foundation of our church.

The congregation built its first building in 1935, and over the decades, God expanded the ministry. New buildings were added in 1944, 1958, 1975, and finally our Family Life Center in 2004. Major ministries like the Bus Ministry and Faith Promise Missions began in the 1970s and continue to shape our identity today.

Today, the church supports 100+ missionaries and continues to grow under the leadership of Pastor James Smith, striving to be a lighthouse in our community and around the world.
